RAINDOWN PROJECT, 2009
Andrews F.G.

Video
Sound

Rain Down is a collaborative project by Radiohead fans to make DVDs of the band’s concert in Brazil. The first one was the São Paulo presentation, that took place on March 22nd 2009. The raw material for the editing are amateur videos. recorded by the audience and shared online, on websites like YouTube. Even though there are many projects with the same concept, even some that came before Rain Down, Andrews piece stands out for some reasons: The English band became more popular after their online marketing strategies. making use of YouTube as an official promotional tool and making their latest album available for download at symbolic prices – while many artists are still outraged by piracy and it’s ”bad consequences“. In the same way, Rain Down makes use of online published videos and is redistributed freely. The concert’s scenario is composed by live image projections of various cameras positioned on stage, forming a panel with fragments of different angles. Andrews transposes this visual multiplicity with a dynamic editing process that values the intensity of the music and the effect of the excited audience. In the wider planes, the screen if split between stage and public. It’s possible to notice the amount of LCD screens of cameras or mobile phones filming the event‘ giving the piece a metalinguistic connotation.
