Fashion film | COLOR | Sound | 7′ | 2020
Virtual presentation for São Paulo Fashion Week – N50, directed by Paulo Mendel for Victor Hugo Mattos‘s studio. The film happens during the journey we take around the sun in one day, but starting with the supernova that originated it more than 4 billion years ago, by the reflection of sunlight on the moon at night. Starring Emily Nunes and voiced by Letrux, “Cálida” is based on images made by the stylist during the quarantine in Bahia and on the poetry of Crib Tanaka, from Rio de Janeiro, to show the power of the sun as a cure.
“The theme was the sun. The challenge I set myself was to create a film without any direct image of it, except for a NASA video. I immersed myself in astronomy and other ancestral knowledge. I remembered sculptures from the gold museum at Colombia, the Egyptians, associations with gods, indigenous legends and how our bodies surrender themselves to him. I questioned the gender of this little star.” – PM
