This artwork mind gaming with the borders of the term analogue versus digital was done in 2007/2009 and is entitled: ‘FOURLETTERWORDS‘. It’s a series including for example: FOURLETTERWORDS (SOLO), FOURLETTERWORDS (FOOL), FOURLETTERWORDS (BABY), FOURLETTERWORDS (FAIL).
This one is called FOURLETTERWORDS (PLAY). Initially, it was built as a homage to all the dying audio media in this digital age and to illustrate the tangibility and exclusivity of a physical medium (opposed to data files for example). The object consists of a cassette box on which LED-modules are fixed, soldered with copper wire and driven by batteries. The switch enlightens a ‘fourletterword’ being limited by its digital possibility to make sense linguistically. Not every letter can be written/turned on. Later the functional analogue object – here: FOURLETTERWORDS (PLAY), 2007 – was turned into a mixed media digital work again and layered with a photo.
