The Cyberphony #2[:Dot-Dot..], 2009

Felipe Ribeiro

The Cyberphony #2[:Dot-Dot. .] is an archetypal synthesis electroacoustic device created from the unfolding of Cyberphony 01 {DISORDER}. Programmed in HTML. It deals with the boundary between logarithmic calculation and machinery error as a poetic resource.

Seven months of work (seven hours a day) in a Averatec computer with 1-59 Ghz, 496 RAM, 40 GB hard drive and onboard soundcard resulted in 10.297 images collected on the intemet. Such images were synthesized in 623 icons, from 16×16 to 800×600 pixels, creating 70 pages mapped by interconnections. 74 poems and essays by the composer, as well as 506 textual quotes, were overlaid on such pages. A score was thus obtained, in which 1.001 WAV sounds and 101 MIDI sounds lasting between two seconds and two minutes were semi-randomly arranged. The total size of the files is 812 MB, and the sounds were then fired by multiple window browsing. one of which was captured and projected. Two windows were used on this recording, which can be viewed due to subsequent video editing.
