installation

Material: wood, audio equipment, binoculars, projector

transparencia-300 During a trip to Uruguay in 2006, the artist noticed small architectonic constructions resting upon stilts of some parks, named “birds’ mirador” in Spanish. Constructions made of the region’s eucalyptus, among which there are some binoculars, illustrations and descriptions of birds that can be seen from the site.
In June 2010, Elaine installed a bird observatory at square Saint Germain des Prés, as a result of her residency at SAM Art Projects in Paris, France. Various sounds of South American birds were collected, selected and edited into a montage that reestablished the auditory impression of a tropical forest presented in quadraphonic sound in the 4SGP Observatory.

By creating a situation to be contemplated from afar, the artist also ended up developing a place of approximation, a kind of portal that connects different and distant landscapes.
